Chatsworth Country Fair

1st to 3rd September 2017 Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. 9am-6.30pm. Massed pipe and military bands, demonstrations and parades, Horse Driving, Falconry, hot air balloons, parachuting, trade stands, rural crafts, vintage car parade, country pursuits, old time fairground, sheep dog trials and more.



Dundee Flower & Food Festival

1st to 3rd September 2017 Camperdown Country Park, Dundee from 10am to 5:30pm. A 3 day event with cookery and gardening demonstrations and talks as well as flowers, plants and crafts, floral art, music, vegetable competitions and other fun activities.

Blackpool Illuminations

1st September to 5th November 2017 Blackpool, Lancashire. The illuminations have been a major part of Blackpool since 1879. The first night is the big switch on, the best time to visit is after the clocks change when the evenings are darker. Great night time photography not only from the lights, but also all the attractions on the piers.


02/09/2017 Firework Championships Eastnor Castle, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Gates open at 5pm, firework displays start at 9.30pm. Firework display teams compete with a 10 minute firework display choreographed to music each, and 5 minute interval between each display. Ending with the organisers giving a display that is not a part of the competition. Fireworks
02/09/2017 The Raveningham Country Fair Ravingham, Norfolk. 11am-11pm. A traditional Threshing fayre, with working steam engines, vintage cars, model aircraft displays, dog show, Knights of Chivalry and falconry and loads more. RAVFair


Braemar Gathering & Highland Games

The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park, Braemar, Scotland. 9.30am to 5pm. Always held on the first Saturday in September and events and competitions taking place include highland dancing, piping, tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, sprinting, relay and hill races, long leap, tug of war and a children’s sack race.

02/09/2017 Ryde Illuminated Carnival Ryde, Isle of Wight. 8.30pm procession leaves from Esplanade & Canoe Lake and travels a route through Dover Street, Park Road, Star Street, High Street, Union Street and ending at the Esplanade and Boating Lake. Ryde Carnival


Shackerstone Family Festival

2nd and 3rd September 2017 Shakerstone, Leics. A family, steam and canal festival all rolled into one event in a show field just outside the village. An event that incorporates vintage cars, canal boats, railways, planes and much more....


02/09/2017 Nuts Challenge 2nd and 3rd September 2017 Henfold Lane, Dorking, Surrey RH5. 9am start. Groups and individuals run a variety of Mud and Obstacle challenge courses, with 100 challenging obstacles, throughout the day, raising money for charity. NUTS

Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing

2nd and 3rd September 2017 Sowerby Bridge, Yorkshire. Sat Procession runs from 10am at Warley, and finishes at the Canal Basin. Sunday Procession starts at 11:45am St Peters Church and finishes at St Bartholomew’s Church, Ripponden. A rushcart is pulled by local men in panama hats, white shirts, black trousers and clogs. A team of women take turns in sitting on top of the cart. The procession is accompanied by five or six teams of Morris dancers. It stops on route to present token rushes to churches, to perform a mumming play and to dance outside the pubs and more.....

4th and 5th September 2017 St Giles, Oxford. This fair has been held on the first Monday and Tuesday after St Giles Day (1st September) in the 19th century.

7th to 10th September 2017 Throughout England. A celebration of architecture and culture. FREE access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for entry. See their website to find somewhere open near you.

International Sheepdog Trials

8th to 10th September 2017 Lodge Park, Aldsworth, Northleach, Gloucestershire GL54 3PP.  First two days are qualifiers for the Sunday Supreme Championship. Also demonstrations, trade stands and stuff for the kids.

Goodwood Revival

8th to 10th September 2017 Goodwood, West Sussex. Historic race meeting staged around the fifties and sixties for cars and motorcycles that would have competed at Goodwood during 1948-1966. Plus loads more.

British Carriage Driving Championships

8th to 10th September 2017 Cirencester, Glous. 3 days of carriage driving competitions from dressage, through marathon and cone driving. Events start around 9am.



The Great River Race - London

Starts at 9am at London Docklands, first boat off at 11am. The race along the River Thames, from London Docklands to Ham in Surrey, covering 21.6 miles. Over 300 International Crews in different rowing boats take part, from those that dress in fancy dress to the serious sports men and women who are in it to win it.

Hop Hoodening

Canterbury, Kent. Celebrates the harvesting of the Hops. Celebrations begin with a procession through the shopping precincts to the cathedral by the Hop Queen in a Hop Bower, followed by country dancers and Morris men. It is usually also accompanied by 2 Hooden Horses. Expected at Cathedral by 11am.



Findon Sheep Fair and Village Festival

Napcote Green, Findon Village, West Sussex. 10.30am-7.30pm Traditional fair, craft demonstrations, craft stalls, meet the sheep and small animals, choirs, Morris dancing, sheepdog demonstrations and more.

Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival

River Cam, Ditton Meadows, Fen Ditton, Cambridge. Teams of up to 10 people paddle 30 foot boats with a drummer at the front beating at the helm. Over 50 boats are expected to take part, other entertainment is also provided including children's activities, funfair, Chinese lion dancing and more.

Village at War Weekend

9th and 10th September 2017 Stoke Bruerne, Northamptonshire. Stoke Bruerne is transported back to the 1940s with vintage narrow boats and funfair, tea dances, WW2 re-enactors, fly-pasts, vintage military and civilian vehicles, wartime displays and much more.

Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival

9th and 10th September 2017 Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Visiting ships, expedition vessels, steam drifters and lifeboats moor on South Quay. Together with Maritime music, from shanty groups, folk bands, choirs and brass bands, displays of maritime related crafts, and more.

Malpas Yesteryear Rally

9th and 10th September 2017 Hampton, Malpas, Cheshire. A heritage weekend with around 30 steam engines, commercial and military vehicles, cars, tractors, motorcycles, heavy horses, working demonstrations, rural crafts, craft marquee and 100+ trade stands.

Ace Café Motorcycle Ride

Depart 10.30am. Up to 40,000 participate in this ride from Ace Corner, North Circular Road, London to Madeira Drive, Brighton. Event at Brighton 9.30am-6pm.

World Black Pudding Throwing Championships

The Oaks, Bridge Street, Ramsbottom, Lancs. 12noon onwards. The aim of the Black Pudding Throwing Championships is to throw a black pudding that has been ‘swaddled’ or wrapped in a pair of ladies tights at a collection of Yorkshire puddings on a plinth 20 feet up on the side of the pub wall.

Frampton Country Fair

Frampton Court Estate, Manor Farm, Frampton on Severn, Gloucestershire. 9am to 5.30pm. See all types of country activities from shooting, fishing, gun dog and working dog displays and competitions as well as pigeon plucking competition, living working countryside demonstrations and much more.

Abbots Bromley Horn Dance

Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire. 7:45am Collect the Antlers from the church and the dancing starts on the village green at 8:15am. The dance consists of 12 dancers, 6x carrying reindeer antlers, accompanied by the hobby horse, a jester, Maid Marian, a boy carrying a bow and arrow, a musician playing an accordion and a boy playing the triangle keeping the beat of the music for the dancers as they walk about 10 miles to different locations. Also on the village green will be exhibitions, craft stalls.



Widecombe Fair

Widecombe, Devon. 9am 'til late. A traditional Devon country fair that includes horse trading, produce and livestock shows and competitions including Dartmoor Ponies, and White-faced and Grey faced Dartmoor Sheep; dry stone walling, sheep shearing and thatching demonstrations; cross country race over open moorland from the top of Widecombe Hill to the Fair below; tug o' war; street entertainment in the village; bale rolling, vintage machinery on display and more.

13th to 17th September 2017 In the grounds of Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Three day eventing competition. Gates open at 8am each day.

Westmorland County Show

Lane Farm, Crooklands, Kendal, Cumbria. 8am-5:30pm. One of Britain’s oldest livestock shows, but also Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling, craft marquees, 250+ trade stands, local products, food hall and demos.

Kendal Torchlight Carnival

15th and 16th September 2017 Kendal, Cumbria. Procession starts at 7.30pm. Parade features include dancers, bands, teams of heavy and working horses with drays from the 1900's, steam engines, floats, marching bands etc.



Egremont Crab Fair and World Gurning Championships

15th and 16th September 2017. Egremont, Cumbria. An event combining ancient and traditional with modern attractions. Starts early in the morning and on show will be a talent show; hound trails; crafts; Greasy Pole; cycle racing; apple cart; horn blowing and of course Gurning.

15th to 17th September 2017 Southport Seafront, Southport, Merseyside. Fri gates open at 6pm, Sat and Sun it's 9am each day. Includes Red Arrows, fast jets historical and military aircraft, plus other attractions.

15th to 17th September 2017 Old Warden Park, nr Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. Attractions include, steam ploughing, fairground organs, flying displays, working crafts, steam engines, heavy horses, vintage vehicles and an old time fairground plus more.

15/09/2017 Sky Safari 15th to 17th September 2017 Longleat Safari Park, nr Warminster, Wiltshire. Two mass ascensions of 50 hot air balloons, one in the morning the other in the early evening from Longleat House's Lawn, each day. During the day many of them will do individual tethered ascents. 15th to 17th September 2017 Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. 9.30am to 5.30pm each day. Event includes horticultural nurseries, plant society marquees, show gardens, floristry and flower arranging, opportunity to see and buy horticultural sundries like tools, summer houses, pots etc, arts and crags and lots of food.

15th to 18th September 2017 Beaches all around the UK shores take part in recording what is going on and the data collected is used for the Annual Beachwatch report.

Southampton Boat Show

15th to 24th September 2017 Mayflower Park/Town Quay, Southampton. 10am-7pm. With over 1,000 boats of all sizes and around 500 exhibitors. Including try a boat, try a dive, feature boats, and water warriors.

Fairground at Night

Hollycombe, Liphook, Hampshire. 7pm-10pm. See a Traditional Steam Fairground at night with sights, sounds and smells of an Edwardian Fairground. Also on the 23rd and 30th September as well as 3 weekends in October. See website for details.



Great Gorilla Run

London. 10.30am-12.30pm. 1000 runners in gorilla suits race 8km around the city for charity. Start and finishes at Mincing Lane, with the route taking them past Tower Bridge and St Paul's Cathedral.

Truckfest North West

16th and 17th September 2017 Cheshire Showground, Knutsford, Cheshire. Loads of trucks on show and a trade exhibition for operators. Displays include jet propelled Pro-Jet, somersaulting trucks and monster trucks, etc.

Autumn Equinox

The autumn equinox is when day and night are of equal length. Druids celebrate this at Primrose Hill, London and at Stonehenge and other ancient monuments.



Cruckton & District Ploughing & Hedging

Ruyton XI Towns, Shropshire. Site between Nescliffe and Oswestry. The ploughing match will have up to 80 ploughmen taking park as well as other related activities.



North West Vintage Rally

23rd and 24th September 2017 Victoria Park, Widnes. 10am-5pm each day. The largest free admission gathering of Vintage Fair Organs and Vintage machinery in the UK. Something for everyone, including vintage fun fair, model boats, falconry and a sheep show.

Malvern Autumn Show

23rd and 24th September 2017 Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcs. Features lifestyle ideas and themes to promote good living. From running a smallholding to cooking, gardening and demonstrations in the activity arena. Also incorporates one of the RHS flower shows.

Seed Gathering Season

23rd September to 23rd October 2017 An autumn festival organised by the Tree Council to inspire everyone to gather seeds, fruits and nuts but also to plant new trees of the future.

World Stone Skimming Championships

Easdale Island, nr Oban, Scotland. Starts 12noon. Held every year for any age, each competitor gets 3 skims using special stones, for a skim to qualify the stone must bounced at least 3 times and it is then judged on the distance it travels.



Three Peaks Cyclo Cross Race

A 38 mile cross country bike race across the Yorkshire Dales National Park, that climbs the Yorkshire Three Peaks around the Ribble Valley. Starts on roads then the remaining 20 miles is off road. First peak to climb is Ingleborough, then Whernside the largest at 2000ft and 3rd peak is Pen-y-ghent. When they are not able to ride bike, they have to run and carry. Riders are given 3 tags at the start which are handed to officials at the top of each peak so that they can make sure no one gets lost.

The Enchanted Forest Force of Nature

28th September to 29th October 2017 An outdoor sound and light show in Faskally Wood, Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland. A night/light spectacular which attracts around 20,000 visitors each year. Various sessions available between 6pm and 10pm. Starts at centre of Pitlochry where you are taken to the forest.

29/09/2017 British Musical Fireworks Championships 29th September to 1st October 2017. Victoria Park, Rotten Row, Southport. 6pm-10pm. Come watch the teams orchestrate their fireworks, both on the ground and in the air, to dance to the beat of the music in sync in some unique displays. Fireworks

30th September  and 1st October 2017 The South of England Centre, Ardingly, West Sussex. 9am-5pm daily. As well as the animals there are also demonstrations, entertainment and a wide range of activities.
