Today is the start of Summer and there is lots going on in both the nature and wildlife world as well as in the the humans. You will find many activities in our June diary to keep you occupied weekends as well as of course many things taking place during the week.  The 21st June it is the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, and for those of you who would like to visit

Stonehenge in Wiltshire on this day you should take a look at the English Heritage Stonehenge website page for details. However, for those of you who aren't able to visit Stonehenge there are plenty more stone circles around the UK and taking a look in our Stone Circles Section you may find something closer to you. We have updated our Preparing for a Photographic Trip to a Stone Circle to give you some ideas on how best to achieve good photos of stone circles and where you can find more information on them.

As well as our extensive site of stone circles and heritage features within the UK, there is another website which has a vast number of stone circles and other ancient monuments in the UK and around the world. We include links to the Megalithic in many of our ancient heritage pages. As well as information and maps of the sites they also have a large number of photos taken by contributors and to encourage this they run a monthly photo competition.

Now the summer is here you have longer days to get out and about there are lots of possibilities for getting some interesting photographs, including White Horses and Hillside Features, Abbeys, and Castles. If you want a water theme as well as the seaside and coastal Lighthouses, there are also the many Canals & Waterways inland. Of course June is also the best month for visiting the many Gardens around the UK which will be in full bloom and colour with many at the Historic Houses also containing water features to.

So make the most of June and the coming summer months.

Our most popular feature is the monthly diary covering interesting and unusual things on, around the UK, in the two months ahead. Our monthly front page/newsletter, from the beginning, is still available and can be accessed via our 'recent editions' link.

Everything that appears amongst these pages, or ever has, is indexed in a number of ways, alphabetically, by topic, by county, and often linked in to sections. Many of the sections have their own front doorways so people with specific interests have direct access through these doors to their area of interest.

A key to the most popular codes is at the bottom of the contents panel on the left and clicking on any of the symbols will bring up a full list. On any page, holding your mouse over one of these symbols tells you what it means.
