Swan Upping, the annual count of Mute Swan, takes place during July on a section of the River Thames.

We are now in the main summer season of the UK and along with the recent good weather this gives us great opportunities to get out and about with our cameras. There is plenty to see and do within the July and August diaries, from colourful re-enactments, to country shows, and the unusual, so take a look and see what is of interest to you.

Your First Visit
Wildlife Photography In July
July Diary

There is also plenty of wildlife on show whether you are picnicking at your local park, taking a stroll along a canal or river, relaxing on one of our many sandy beaches around our coastline or just relaxing in your garden. If you like to walk then there are many footpaths from the short to the long National Trails to choose from, take a look at our Walks section for some ideas and inspiration on where you go. Remember you don't have to go too far from home to find something of interest.

If you happen to be at one of the many coastlines where you can take a boat ride out to some of the islands you might just still catch a puffin or two, or see a seal sun bathing on the beach, while off the west coast of Scotland you may spot a dolphin playing just off the beach. Along the rivers and canals watch out for Swan families or even the odd Heron,  but don't forget the little stuff like colourful Dragonflies and Damselflies, they are a challenge to catch, but you'll be pleased when you do. If you happen to be taking a picnic in the countryside take a look amongst the grass and see you can spot a grasshopper or a bee. There is so much to see keep your eyes and ears open and you may capture something special.

Let's Explain How This Resource Works

One of the most popular features is a monthly diary covering interesting and unusual things on, around the UK, in the two months ahead.

Everything that appears, or ever has, is indexed in a number of ways, alphabetically, by topic, by county, and often linked into sections. Many of the sections have their own front doorways so people with specific interests have direct access through these doors to their area of interest.

Up until July 2012 we also produced a monthly newsletter as apart of this resource, but like magazines going over the years we found it becoming a little repetitive, so decided to concentrate on the resource development and drop the newsletter issues. You can get back to see every newsletter, from the beginning, via our recent editions link.

All of our links are coded showing you if it's an external link or one of our own pages and when it is, the type of page it is. You will find a key to the most popular ones at the bottom of the contents panel on the left and clicking on any of the symbols will bring up a full list. Holding your mouse over one of these symbols tells you what it means.

If this is your first visit, click here to find out how you might best use this site to help you find what you are looking for.
