Introduction to Follies and Monuments SectionThis section is to cover both follies and other monuments and structures found throughout the UK. A Folly is a word that often is used to mean mistake, but an architectural folly is not a mistake but a combination of a magical trick and a work of art. A folly is a building that some would say has no practical use, but its also a building that adds to the illusion you can see, and may generate psychological response in all who see it. Monuments are structures which have been erected to commemorate a particular event, activity, person or to mark an important site and preserve it as public property. Sometimes there is an overlap between both monuments and follies so we have decided to include them both within the same section.
