Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

We are now officially into British Summer time, with the longer days, lighter nights and hopefully some really good sunny weather. So along with the many events in our diary there is no excuse not to get out and about in our fabulous British countryside and explore the many sites, sounds and delights our country has to offer and to experiment and take great photos.

June Diary

On this website we have many links via our Sections Index to places you can visit and explore, from gardens, historic houses, windmills, canals, abbeys, railways, islands, castles and more.

I have just returned from a 10 day break in Northumberland the castle capital of England, with over 70. You have Lindesfarne or Holy Island as it is known, taking a drive across the causeway when the tide is out and remembering to return before the sea does. On the coast there are many including Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh Castle,   and inland as well as the ruins of Warkworth, Etal and Norham to name a few, you also have the second largest inhabited castle in England, Alnwick Castle, and The Alnwick Garden.

Whilst up there I was hoping to visit the Farne Islands and take a look at the Puffins and many other seabirds which make up the 120,000+ residents of the islands at this time of year. But the weather wasn't on our side and the days we were near Seahouses it was too windy for the boats to run.

Over the coming weeks we will update those guides we already have and add additional ones for those we visited and create a Castles of  Northumberland issue. So remember to come back and take a look.

Let's Explain How This Resource Works

One of the most popular features is a monthly diary covering interesting and unusual things on, around the UK, in the two months ahead.

Everything that appears, or ever has, is indexed in a number of ways, alphabetically, by topic, by county, and often linked into sections. Many of the sections have their own front doorways so people with specific interests have direct access through these doors to their area of interest.

Up until July 2012 we also produced a monthly newsletter as apart of this resource, but like magazines going over the years we found it becoming a little repetitive, so decided to concentrate on the resource development and drop the newsletter issues. You can get back to see every newsletter, from the beginning, via our recent editions link.

All of our links are coded showing you if it's an external link or one of our own pages and when it is, the type of page it is. You will find a key to the most popular ones at the bottom of the contents panel on the left and clicking on any of the symbols will bring up a full list. Holding your mouse over one of these symbols tells you what it means.

If this is your first visit, click here to find out how you might best use this site to help you find what you are looking for.
