This weeks 'a look at a course' - Exposure Masterclass run by Photography Skills. The object is to be able to manage exposure in just about any situation, coping with challenging situations and extremes, as well as being in creative control at all times. This, like several others, may at first seam like a simple subject but is an interesting and exciting range of knowledge and skills that allows you not only to get the right exposure in more situations but to understand why problems arise and how to overcome them. You take away with you both the understanding and skills as well as an exposure aid that is exclusively produced for clients of Camera  Images and Photography Skills. Read More .......

This Grey Heron was taken from a moving boat as it foraged at the edge of the lake. This week we have a feature page on the Grey Heron as it is coming to that time of year when they meet back at the Heronry for pair bonding and remodelling last years nests ready for the new breeding season.

Image was taken with Nikon D2H and Nikon 80-400VR lens at 370mm ISO 500 1/1000th f5.6.

There is also a look at a Camera Images ‘Short’ 3 hour course that can be taken on its own or combined with others on Exposure Control and Graduated Filters, and we have also covered a little on this. In under half the time, the same ground cannot be covered as in the Masterclass but the basics and areas that are either of most interest or most relevant to your photographic interests can be covered. This week we are also taking a look at Digiscoping, with two articles the first looks at what it is, how it works, while the second costs up the allocation of Digiscoping on a DSLR and compares this with the option of using long lenses to achieve the same results. Access Rights in the UK and Photographic LimitationsFor the majority of photographers taking pictures in the UK for your own personal use is accepted by many places as okay. There are some restrictions like not being allowed to photograph in courts, or inside some venues open to the public, as well as of course in some areas like London and Hull you may have seen some instances in the photographic press of photographers being stopped and in some cases arrested by the police "because they appeared to be taking photographs in a covert manner'' or they just had a DSLR lens and a tripod. However for the photographer looking to take photographs for commercial purposes there are more restrictions and considerations to look at prior to getting that photograph and this article takes a look at some of these, as well as trying to define 'commercial purposes'.   Read More ........

Today is Burns Night, where Scotland celebrates with a Burns Supper, the birth of it's most well known Poet, Robert Burns. Amongst the Location Guides this week you will find details of  Burns Cottage, the birthplace of Robert Burns and where he lived until the age of 7. If you're off to Ayr during the summer months a visit to the Burns Heritage Centre in Alloway, Ayrshire will give you the opportunity to find out more about the man and how life was in the 18th century, as well as chance to see some of his works.

Remember to also take a look at the Deals area we still have some items for sale including the Nikon D2H (4 megapixel) camera body, which was used to take this weeks 'weekly picture'.

In the News This Week

Sigma are offering a free upgrade to customers who are Nikon D3 users for some of their lenses that will not support the "Auto DX Crop" found on the D3. It only affects 4 lenses with a particular set of serial numbers, the lenses affected are the 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM and 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM when they are attached, the image area format will not change to DX format automatically. Also when the APO 300mm F2.8 EX DG HSM and APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG HSM is attached the image area gets changed to DX format, even if the image area format is set to FX or 5:4. For more information see the Sigma website.
