Becky Falls

Also known as Becka Falls

Dartmoor, Devon

Location Guide

Becky Falls  Nigel Cox

Originally known as Becka Falls, on the Becka brook, a tributary of the river Bovey. Its name was changed when it became a tourist attraction, and the name Becky Falls is now shown on current maps. A 1940's OS map shows it as Becka Falls.

Becky Falls are a set of rapids within a small river or brook, there are no sudden drops or major falls but a picturesque area with falls over some distance dropping around 70 feet overall, with water cascading over boulders. Located in Dartmoor, its a woodland park, designated an SSSI (site of special scientific interest) with rare lichens and fungi.

It has been a popular tourist place for a very long time, and the falls area is natural except for the walkways, the cafeteria, gift shop and car parks being away from these.

Here you can sit and relax, climb the boulders and enjoy several different walks. At the right time of the year the valley is carpeted with Bluebells. Its also a location to capture autumn colours.

There are some special events for example :-

Nature Challenge Competitions

Cute & Cuddly Animal Encounters

Animal Encounters of the Scary Kind!!

Ugly Bug Show

Animal feeding sessions

Indoor Crafts

I have visited in the past, but it was some years ago.

Although there are entry fees, it appears from the Ordnance Survey map that there are footpaths through this area, see OS Get a Map, from which you may be able to see all that you want and there is no restriction on the use of photographs taken from a public path. It may also allow access at other times to those when the woodland park is open.  I have not visited to see what can be photographed from the footpaths.
