There are a group of villages and hamlets just north of Cirencester in the Cotswolds known locally as 'The Duntisbournes'. These are Duntisbourne Abbots, the village and largest that has a beautiful church, Duntisbourne Leer with it's Ford and Wet Lane and probably the most photographed, Duntisbourne Rouse and Middle Duntisbourne. Middle Duntisbourne is one of these hamlets and takes it name from the meaning of ‘the start of a small river’. It is small with only eleven Cotswold stone cottages one of which being a farm. Depending on your route into the hamlet it will be necessary to cross the ford, where the road crosses the River Dunt, where it is not uncommon to see wild mallards and moorhens with their young. It is a pretty Ford, with the Cotswold stone houses and barns as a backdrop and some wild flowers growing on the grass verges alongside. There is also a small footbridge which takes pedestrians across. You can drive down the narrow country lane through the ford and village and at the Ford the road does appear to widen a little mainly because it is right next to a farm and therefore the entrances to the farm buildings give that impression. It is possible to stop of a short while to take any pictures you need, it is not a busy road. One point to mention if you visit it after looking at Duntisbourne Leer, when you get to the triangle junction which takes you down into the village, you could make the decision, like I did, to park on the triangle piece. This is not a problem unless it is wet of course, but getting to the Ford you have to walk downhill from here, which again the energetic will find no problem, but remember you have to get back to your vehicle and the reverse of downhill is uphill and it is quite drawn out. If I was visiting again I would drive down.
