Broadwell Ford

The Ford at Broadwell, is more of a splash but is in a really pretty location on the edge of the very large village green, with over hanging trees nearby. Again another typical Cotswold village with its pretty Cotswold stone cottages, country pub on the edge of the green, a gentle stream running through, Norman church and village green. Broadwell was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and parts of its church date from that period. During the middle ages the estate belonged to a Benedictine order of monks. The village green was donated to the village by Lord Ashton in the 20th century.

From the A429 between Stow on the Wold and Moreton In Marsh at the crossroads with Donnington take the road into Broadwell Village. As you enter the village just past the church on your right the ford is ahead of you and you drive through it. The Ford is created by the road needing to cross a gentle stream, a tributary of the River Evenlode, which runs alongside the village green.

If there is no water in it the day you visit then just past the red phone box on your left there is a little white railing on the left which marks the position of the Ford. There are no parking restrictions on the road.

On our visit we were lucky enough to see some vehicles pass through as you can see.
