Blockley Ford

Blockley, Gloucestershire

Location Guide

Blockley is a typical picturesque village in the Cotswolds, with it's rural setting, country cottages, village green etc. Blockley is on a hill and from the centre of the village there is a 360 degree viewpoint.

The Ford in Blockley is really a Wet Lane, and the title of the road it is in, Brook Lane, really gives this away. If you enter Brook Lane from the High Street, as you approach you can see the Ford Sign and below you on the corner is the start of the water. There is a footpath which goes to the houses in front of you and takes you along the lane towards a row of beautiful little cottages where the road starts to rise up hill again.

The High Street is narrow, particularly as cars park on one side, and it is here you should park and approach the lane on foot. It appeared to be driveable but there was a car blocking it from the High Street end and it's not something I would drive through. If you are brave enough to drive through then continue up the hill past the cottages and go left into Donkey Lane, a very narrow country lane, that will take you back onto the B4479. However if not, then you will need to turn around and head back towards the village centre to get back onto the 'B' road.

The nearby market towns of Moreton in Marsh, and Stow on the Wold are interesting places to visit with their large number of antique shops and galleries. There is also Batsford Arboretum and Falconry centre just down the road.
