A mix of woodland, grassland and saltmarshes at the head of the Dyfi esturary.
During the spring it is carpeted in flowers and you may glimpse flycatchers and redstarts emerging from their nest boxes to get dinner for their family. Summer sees the arrival of wading birds such as lapwing and redshanks as well as some very special butterflies. During the winter months ducks and geese move in. The Greenland White Fronted Geese graze the salt marsh and local farmland around the reserve. Barnacle Geese also visit. In November 2008 there were sightings of 280 Barnacle Geese and 52 White Fronted Geese. However on the 14th January 2009 the Barnacle Geese had left, but the White Fronted Geese are still around and are usually around until the 3rd week of April. There are 7 hides and two viewpoints on this RSPB site. The Breakwater and Saltings hides can be a good viewing point for roosting waders on high tides.
A Visitor Centre provides refreshments, picnic area, live camera viewings, toilet facilities and a shop. There are also two circular nature trails one of 1.5miles and the other 3 miles long.
