Historic Scotland Explorer Passes

Whether your visiting Scotland for a short break or a full blown holiday, for visiting some of their historic sites, such as castles, stone circles and the like then you may find the Explorer Pass will allow you to save money.

The card includes:

  • Free entry to more than one Historic Scotland property across Scotland
  • Free entry to Historic Scotland daytime events
  • Free information pack with souvenir passport
  • 20% discount on audio tours at Edinburgh and Stirling castles
  • 10% discount in the cafés at Urquhart Castle and Fort George

Passes can be purchased for 3 days of a 5 day period, 7 days over a 14 day period or 10 days over a 30 day period. Meaning if you are on a 14 day break in Scotland anytime during these 14 days you can spend seven days visiting Historic Scotland sites with this card. There are different prices for Adults, Concessions, Children as well as 2+2 Family passes.

As well as a pass to cover the whole of Scotland, there are also 3 regional passes which cover the participating attractions in these areas, and these are:

  • Dumfries and Galloway, which has a range of nine attractions within its borders including Caerlaverock Castle near Dumfries to New Abbey Corn Mill and The Cradle of Christianity - Whithorn Priory.

  • Scottish Borders includes entry to all five Historic Scotland attractions in the Scottish Borders including the ruined abbeys in Melrose, Jedburgh and Dryburgh.

  • Orkney includes some of the most unique prehistoric sites in Europe including Skara Brae the stone age village built 5000 years ago and Maes Howe the world famous tomb built before 2700BC.
