Dunge, pronounced as Dungeon, is in a hidden
valley in the Pennine Hills, the Gardens are constantly changing; with plants
being moved about and new planting taking place. It has one of the most
comprehensive selections of Rhododendrons in the UK.
A kaleidoscope of colour
takes place through their opening season and includes such features as
Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Magnolias, Acers and the Blue Poppy. These and
many other plants, growing to 1,000ft plus, some of which have been
collected as seed whilst the owner was Trekking in Nepal and in
Arunachal Pradesh. Examples for your own garden are for sale in the
Hardy Plant Nursery.
There is a collection of over 550 species and
hybrid Rhododendrons giving the feel of you being hidden in a Himalayan valley,
with streams, waterfalls, ponds, bridges, bog gardens and a wide variety of
unusual perennials, trees and shrubs in a magnificent setting.

Getting there: Located near Kettleshulme,
about 1.5 miles south of the B5470 between Bollington and Whaley Bridge. |
Access: The Gardens are not suitable for
wheelchairs but a patio seat gives a panoramic view of the front garden and
surrounding hills. Parking is provided for visitors within about 50 metres.
Drop-off point for visitors outside main entrance. The route from the
parking area to the nearest public entrance is: flat, without steps. Level
access or access by ramp or lift to, public toilet suitable for visitors who
use a wheelchair, ticket and information point. |
