A wildlife park in the southern tip of the Lake District and a wildlife experience a little different, an interactive animal experience with the unique ability to be able to get up close and in some cases feed some of the animals. It is a walk around park which includes half a kilometre of raised aerial walkway and viewpoints so that you can get up close and personal with some of the animals including being able to hand feed the Giraffes everyday around 11am-11.30am, during the main season there is a second opportunity in the afternoon at 4pm, this takes place outside in their paddock, on wet days it takes place inside their house where the walkway has been extended. From this same walkway you can see Rhinos and the Baboons. You can also take part in feeding some of the other animals including at 3pm each day you can help hand feed the penguins. You can also get up close with free roaming animals in their natural environments including wallabies, troops of Squirrel & Capuchin Monkeys, a walk through tropical house and a walk through aviary with free flying Andean Condors, King Vultures, McCaws, Egrets and Scarlet Ibis. Other feeding opportunities you can watch all year round include at 2.30pm each day the tigers have to climb a 20ft pole to get to their food and at later in the afternoon the lions get their food from 6metres up a tree. More feeding demonstrations take place during the main season (Easter-1st Nov) including vultures, apes and monkeys, spectacled bears, and at 2pm you can help feed the Lemurs. There are also a number of meet the animal experiences through the summer months with demonstrations and talks including getting up to close to a snake. Some of the animals they have within the park include:
Other facilities include a cafe, picnic areas, a miniature train, and a gift shop. Many of the enclosures appear to be ideal for photographers and during the winter months I would assume the park is a lot quieter and if you can get a chance to visit during this time, although not as many feeding sessions taking place it could be easier from a photographic point of view.
This page is a Quick Guide, the idea of Quick Guides is to allow very basic information and linking forward information to be added to the system rather than having to wait until a full location guide has been developed. It should therefore be considered a development stage rather than a finished objective. Once more information is known the objective is to create either a Location or Featured Location page which has two grids and far more information. Please let us know any other information that we can add to the Grid(s) or page and any errors that you discover. Before making a long trip to any location it is always wise to double check the current information, websites like magazines may be correct at the time the information is written, but things change and it is of course impossible to double check all entries on a regular basis. If you have any good photographs that you feel would improve the illustration of this page then please let us have copies. In referring to this page it is helpful if you quote both the Page Ref and Topic or Section references from the Grid below. To print the planning grid select it then right click and print the selected area. Please submit information on locations you discover so that this system continues to grow.
