Tuxford Windmill

? Nottinghamshire

Text starts here (+ any pictures needed if a featured page)

Your visit to the Windmill wouldn't be complete without a guided tour of the windmill.

Guided Tours are available whenever the Miller or one of his expert volunteers are available (call ahead to avoid disappointment).

We recommend you take the Guided Tour as it provides detailed explanations of the windmill  and it's workings, but you are also welcome to check out the award-winning restoration on your  own (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Walk through the different floors and learn a little of the history of Tuxford and the Windmill - and of course discover just how the windmill works. Including:

  • The Meal Floor with the tentering equipment and governers

  • The Stone floor with the mill stones and their furniture

  • The Bin Floor with the Sack Hoist

  • and all the way to the top for a close-up view of the wind-shaft, wallower and brake-wheel and turning gear on the Dust Floor

Also - check out the "engine-pit" which housed a steam engine up until the late 1920's.
