Helliar Holm Lighthouse
aka Saeva Ness
Lighthouse
Orkney Isles
|
Location Guide |
Helliar Holm is an island in Shapinsay Sound
between Shapinsay Island and the Orkney Mainland, on the north side of the
mainland. It is accessible only by boat.
The lighthouse was built in 1893 by David
Stevenson and is located on Saeva Ness on the south side of the island, and it
is sometimes referred to as the Seava Ness Lighthouse. The 2-storey light
keeper's house has be abandoned and allowed to deteriorate.
Apparently good views of the lighthouse can be
had from the ferry between Kirkwall on Orkney mainland or from Balfour on
Shapinsay Island.
