A short three-storey tower with a circular
lantern and keepers' cottages designed by David Stevenson, was built in 1916 as
a wartime measure to fill the gap between the lighthouses at Tarbat Ness and
Noss Head. It is a white tower with red band and is located on top a cliff about 3 miles north east of Lybster, just off the A99
coastal highway.
The Lightkeepers cottage and other buildings
have been privately owned since automation in 1964. It continued to operate
after 1964 but was taken out of operation in 2010.
