Aerial Photo Marinas.com (more images available) A castellated tower lighthouse built by David A Stevenson in 1925, located on a small island just off Brough Head, about half a mile west of Birsay on the north west corner of Orkney Mainland. At only 11 metres high it still sites 52 metres above sea level. Very little is known on the history of this lighthouse. Since 2002 it has been powered by solar power with backup from 4 wind turbines. The island and lighthouse are only accessible for about 5-6 hours when the tide is low. A concrete path leads across the rocks.
